It’s #TimeToTravel: An open letter to Canadian governments to ease restrictions on travel and tourism

The Business Council of Alberta is proud to join over 120 other business leaders to sign this open letter to encourage Canadian governments to ease rules and restrictions on travel and tourism.

The travel, tourism and hospitality industry has been one of the hardest hit as we necessarily closed borders and restricted travel to slow the spread of the virus. Alberta’s tourism industry contributes over $7 billion annually and is the 4th largest employment sector for people.

As we move past what appears to be the peak of the health crisis, we must safely support our tourism sector and ensure a strong recovery. We know that one of the best things we can do to encourage travel is to build public confidence, and this message must come from governments of all levels.

We encourage our provincial and federal governments to let Canadians, and Albertans, know that it’s #TimeToTravel.

In the spirit of truth, reconciliation, and respect, we honour and acknowledge the lands upon which we live and work as guests, including the traditional territories of the First Nations in Treaties 6, 7, and 8 and the citizens of the Metis Nation of Alberta. We thank the First Peoples of this land, which we now call Alberta, for their generations of stewardship of the land, and we seek to walk together in the spirit of truth and reconciliation to build a shared future for all in Alberta.
