Pourbaix succeeds Scott Bolton, who concludes his term as Chair of the Board
CALGARY, AB — June 25, 2026 — The Business Council of Alberta (BCA) today announced that Alex Pourbaix, Board Chair of Cenovus Energy, has been appointed Chair of BCA’s Board of Directors, effective July 1, 2026. He succeeds Scott Bolton, former President & CEO of UFA Co-operative Limited, who has completed his term as Board Chair.
“On behalf of BCA and our members, we welcome Alex as our incoming Chair. Few leaders bring the depth of experience, national perspective, and passion for this province that Alex does, and we look forward to his leadership as Chair,” said Adam Legge, President of the Business Council of Alberta. “I also want to thank Scott for his outstanding leadership and steady guidance as Chair. Scott’s deep commitment to Alberta, his roots in the province and in the agriculture community, and to building an economy that creates prosperity for all Albertans has strengthened our organization and our impact.”
“The world is looking to Alberta for what it produces; not just in energy, but agriculture, manufacturing, tech, and also for the talented and skilled workforce behind it. That’s a moment of real opportunity for Canada,” said Pourbaix. “Alberta business has an essential role to play in seizing that opportunity, and the Business Council of Alberta has the expertise and leadership to drive that work forward. I’m honoured to serve as Chair, and I want to thank Scott for the strong foundation he leaves behind.”
Mr. Pourbaix has served on the BCA Board of Directors since 2023 and brings decades of business leadership experience, including as President & CEO of Cenovus Energy from 2017 to 2023, where he led the company’s acquisition of Husky Energy and co-founded the Pathways Alliance (now Oil Sands Alliance). He currently serves as Board Chair of Cenovus Energy and previously spent 27 years with TC Energy in senior leadership roles, including Chief Operating Officer.
