A Strong Canada. A Good Life.
A strong Canada and a good life need a strong economy. Now is the time to come together and make it happen; time to get on the right path, the path to a strong Canada. This flagship initiative details the Council’s actionable 2025 federal election policy priorities for this pivotal time, and beyond.
Canada is on the wrong path and has been for some time. We are declining or underperforming on virtually every federal economic metric, and our international stature and strength is greatly diminished. We are now under threat from our neighbour – someone who up until now was our closest ally and partner. Canada is in a weakened position globally and without action we will lose much of what generations before us fought to build and defend.
Canadians want a strong Canada. They want a good life. They deserve both.
A strong Canada and a good life need a strong economy. One that is the envy of the world. One that offers good paycheques and opportunities, nurtures and attracts the best and brightest, and is able to withstand threats and challenges, even from our closest friends. We will always be in a better position if we are stronger, safer, and more prosperous at home.
We have all that we need: the natural resources the world wants, a highly skilled workforce, amazing innovators and entrepreneurs, and an enviable piece of land on this planet. Now is the time to come together and make it happen; time to get on the right path, become a strong Canada, and offer Canadians a good life.
We can build that strong Canada and good life when we:
Invest in ourselves
- Train Canadians for good jobs
- Fix our Immigration system
- Advance Indigenous economic reconciliation
To achieve these goals, we have assembled 10 bold federal policy actions to achieve a stronger Canada.
Ten Bold Actions for A Strong Canada and A Good Life
Unleash Canada’s natural resource sector potential including energy, food, forest products, and critical minerals
Champion Canada’s natural resources to the world; develop and implement a national resource export strategy; remove unnecessary regulations; accelerate project approvals and permitting; enable innovation and scaling; address labour shortages; incentivize more Canadian value-added activity; invest in rural broadband; fully include Indigenous Peoples in decisions and equity
Fix our immigration system to meet the needs of the workforce
Train Canadians for jobs needed now and, in the future
Strengthen our military, borders, and arctic defense
Meet our international commitments; secure our border; invest in people and equipment; and develop our resources for use in North American defense manufacturing
Mandate the elimination of interprovincial trade and labour mobility barriers
Improve trade with the US and the rest of the world
Address irritants such as defense spending, border and drug issues; define Canada’s role as part of US national security in terms of food, energy, critical minerals, and technology; improve our port and rail infrastructure and labour stability to move more goods easily and with certainty; and invest in new and expanded trade relationships
Build major projects and infrastructure
Implement a long-term national trade, transport and digital infrastructure strategy; identify and approve projects of national interest, with immediate approval of those already in the queue; fix the regulatory and permitting approval process and put more power in the hands of the provinces; demand more innovation, automation and performance at Canada’s ports; and establish a national loan guarantee program for new projects
Create pragmatic environmental policy
Focus on improving the environment while supporting prosperity; take a global view of Canada’s role in emissions and emissions reduction; focus on technology-based solutions; and invest in climate adaptation and resiliency
Grow jobs and investment in Canada by focusing on competitiveness
Immediately reverse harmful policies including discriminatory emissions caps, unworkable electricity regulations and greenwashing provisions, and taxes on capital that make Canada less competitive; conduct a tax review to eliminate barriers to work and investment; and make air travel more affordable by reducing or eliminating costly taxes, user fees, and airport rents
Make Canada a top-tier technology developer and deployer
Position Canada as a hub for ethical and responsible AI, industrial clean tech, agtech and digital infrastructure by strengthening industry-academic partnerships, modernizing IP laws, and scaling innovation; align patent laws with global standards, invest in top research hubs, and foster regional tech clusters; attract startups and investment through targeted incentives, streamlined regulations, and better capital access
