Today, the Business Council of Alberta (BCA) welcomes the designation of the West Coast Oil Pipeline, now known as Pacific Link, as a project of national interest. This designation demonstrates that the federal government recognizes what this project will mean for Canada’s economic prosperity and sovereignty. We also commend the Government of Alberta, Trans Mountain Corporation and Pembina for advancing a project with the potential to benefit the whole country.
BCA is very pleased with this decision as it is another step towards helping Canada reach markets with growing demand and achieve global pricing. The pipeline will create thousands of jobs, hundreds of millions in government revenue, and, importantly, significant opportunities for long-term Indigenous ownership and economic benefits.
We urge the government to move swiftly to undertake the necessary work and consultations so that the project can be permitted and turned into a reality.
