The Business Council of Alberta (BCA) congratulates Premier Danielle Smith and Prime Minister Mark Carney on the announcement of a formal application for a West Coast oil pipeline to the Major Projects Office.
Markets around the world want Canada’s energy. With Canada working to double its non-US exports, there is no bigger lever than our highest-value export, energy, and today is another step towards getting it to those markets.
We are also encouraged to see the pipeline project hitting its timeline as laid out in the Implementation Agreement and look forward to its designation as a project of national interest by October 1.
Filling this oil pipeline will take tens of billions of dollars in new production and infrastructure investment. We are encouraged that the Governments of Alberta and Canada are working with Alberta’s energy industry to enable those investments to take place, which will grow the prosperity and incomes of Canadians from coast to coast to coast.
This marks a significant step forward, and one worth celebrating. The full measure of success will be shovels in the ground and Canadian energy reaching global markets.
BCA will keep working with both orders of government to get there; because when Alberta contributes to its fullest, all of Canada prospers.
Adam Legge, President
The Business Council of Alberta
